If the First Thanksgiving Happened Today
Nov 26th, 2009 | By Nathaniel Darnell | Category: Lead ArticlesOver the years, my father has clipped out and collected political cartoons that he has pegged up on the bulletin boards and mirrors of our house, only for them to be eventually filed away and later recycled at a timely moment. Such is the political cartoon below, which he apparently clipped out while I was at the Vision Forum Faith & Freedom Tour in Plymouth in 2003 during my internship, and has stored only to resurface on our family bulletin board once again.
The date on this clip is particularly significant because it was published only a few short weeks after Chief Justice Roy Moore had been sued and removed from office for publicly acknowledging God’s sovereignty over the laws of our nation and thanking Him for His kindness with the Chief’s Ten Commandments monument in the Alabama State Judicial Building. I had the honor and pleasure of celebrating Thanksgiving with Judge Roy Moore and his family that year in Plymouth and thank him personally for taking the hard stand to set an example in thanking and honoring the Lord God Almighty in our nation.

I just stumbled on your blog and saw this picture. At first it made me laugh, but there is so much truth expressed here. Wow! How far we’ve come.
Tragic, isn’t it? We sure have dropped the baton, haven’t we? Praise be to God, though-He is rasing up a great army of families around the world that are turning back to the old paths wherein there is life. Soli Deo Gloria!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, ladies, for sharing your thoughts. Yes, it does make one stop and think. I am grateful that although much neglect has transpired, the Lord is doing mighty things in our midst. We have much to be excited about and thankful for. Blessings!
